Updated: 19 September 2026 | Biometric Aadhaar Authentication will be mandatory from 1 October 2026 for domestic LPG consumers who want to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy.
A new LPG subsidy rule takes effect from 1 October 2026: domestic LPG consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy.
The good news is that most consumers have already completed the process. As of 19 September 2026, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers — 89.9% of the total — had completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication. They do not need to take any further action.
If you have not completed BAA yet, you can do it during cylinder delivery, at your LPG distributor’s showroom or through the mobile app of your oil marketing company (OMC).
The simple rule: Complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication and you can continue booking subsidised refills at the regulated price. If you do not authenticate, you can still receive LPG, but the applicable subsidy will not be available.

What Changes for LPG Consumers from 1 October?
The change is specifically linked to subsidised domestic LPG refills.
| Your current status | What you need to do | What happens from 1 October |
|---|---|---|
| BAA already completed | Nothing | Continue booking refills as before |
| BAA not completed | Complete BAA | Subsidised refill booking will be enabled after authentication |
| Do not want or cannot complete BAA | Register your choice through the OMC’s available digital channels | LPG can still be supplied at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to the stated conditions |
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas says the authentication process is intended to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches eligible households, while helping prevent diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial or industrial use and removing duplicate or ineligible connections.
How to Complete LPG Biometric Aadhaar Authentication
You do not necessarily have to visit a government office. There are three main ways to complete the process.
1. Complete authentication during LPG delivery
When your next LPG refill is delivered, the delivery person can complete the biometric authentication using the concerned OMC’s mobile application.
Keep your Aadhaar details available and follow the authentication process shown by the delivery agent.
This can be the simplest option if you already have a refill scheduled.
2. Visit your LPG distributor
You can also visit your LPG distributor’s showroom and ask the staff to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication.
Carry the required Aadhaar details and your LPG consumer information.
The process is available through the three public-sector oil marketing companies’ distributor networks.
3. Complete it through your OMC’s mobile app
Consumers can also use the mobile application of their LPG provider:
| LPG provider | App |
|---|---|
| Indane | IndianOil ONE |
| Bharatgas | HelloBPCL |
| HP Gas | HP PAY |
Open the relevant app and look for the available Aadhaar authentication or self e-KYC option.
The government has also made video tutorials available through the PMUY platform for consumers who need help with self e-KYC.
What If You Do Not Complete Aadhaar Authentication?
Not completing BAA does not mean your LPG connection will automatically be disconnected.
However, you will not be able to book subsidised refills at the regulated retail selling price until the authentication requirement is completed.
Consumers who do not wish to or cannot complete BAA can register their choice through available OMC digital channels, including the consumer portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS.
In that case, LPG can continue to be supplied at the applicable market price without subsidy. The government has said such consumers may receive 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability and OMC conditions.
So, the important distinction is:
No BAA does not mean no LPG. It means you will not receive the applicable subsidy unless you complete the authentication requirement.
Why Is the Government Making BAA Mandatory?
The Ministry has linked the measure to better targeting of LPG subsidy.
The stated objectives include:
- Ensuring subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households.
- Linking the LPG connection with an Aadhaar-authenticated consumer.
- Preventing diversion of subsidised domestic LPG for commercial and industrial use.
- Removing duplicate or ineligible connections.
- Making subsidy delivery more targeted and transparent.
The authentication drive has been running for some time. The government said OMCs have used SMS, WhatsApp messages, distributor outreach and other channels to reach consumers who had not completed the process.
How Many LPG Consumers Have Already Completed BAA?
As of 19 September 2026:
- 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers had completed BAA.
- That represents 89.9% of active domestic LPG consumers.
- Consumers who have already completed the process do not need to authenticate again.
That means the immediate task is mainly for the remaining consumers whose authentication is still pending.
What Is the LPG Subsidy Amount?
The actual subsidy can change over time, so consumers should not assume that the subsidy amount will remain fixed.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said the implicit subsidy on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was around ₹210 in September 2026, compared with around ₹721 in June 2026.
This is why the authentication requirement matters financially: the amount a consumer pays can differ depending on whether the refill qualifies for the applicable subsidy.
What Should You Do Before 1 October 2026?
If you are unsure whether your LPG connection has completed BAA, do not wait until the last day.
Use this checklist:
- Check your authentication status with your LPG distributor or through the OMC’s digital channels.
- If BAA is pending, complete it during delivery, at the distributor showroom or through the relevant OMC app.
- Indane consumers can use IndianOil ONE.
- Bharatgas consumers can use HelloBPCL.
- HP Gas consumers can use HP PAY.
- If you cannot or do not want to authenticate, check your OMC’s digital channels for the process to register your preference.
- Keep your Aadhaar and LPG consumer details available when completing the process.
- Do not rely on unofficial websites or people asking for unnecessary payments to complete the process.
What This LPG Rule Does — and Does Not — Mean
There is some potential for confusion around the October 1 deadline.
It does mean:
- BAA becomes mandatory for booking subsidised domestic LPG refills at the regulated retail selling price.
- Consumers who have already completed BAA do not need to repeat it.
- Consumers with pending authentication should complete the process if they want the applicable subsidy.
It does not mean:
- Every LPG connection will automatically be cancelled on 1 October.
- Consumers who do not authenticate will automatically lose access to LPG.
- Everyone has to repeat Aadhaar authentication.
- LPG prices will necessarily rise by a fixed amount for every consumer.
The exact amount paid depends on the applicable LPG retail price and subsidy arrangements at the time of booking.

LPG Aadhaar Authentication: Quick Answer
From 1 October 2026, Biometric Aadhaar Authentication will be required for domestic LPG consumers seeking subsidised refills at the regulated retail selling price. Consumers who have already completed BAA need to do nothing. Those with pending authentication can complete it during delivery, at the distributor showroom or through their OMC’s mobile app. Consumers who do not authenticate can still receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to the government’s stated conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still get LPG if I do not complete Aadhaar authentication?
Yes. The authentication requirement is linked to subsidised refills. Consumers who do not authenticate can still receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to the stated conditions.
Will my LPG connection be cancelled if I do not complete BAA?
The government has said that consumers who do not complete authentication can continue receiving LPG, although they will not receive the applicable subsidy. The process therefore should not be described as an automatic LPG-connection cancellation rule.
Can I complete LPG Aadhaar authentication from home?
Yes. Consumers can use the relevant OMC mobile application. Indane uses IndianOil ONE, Bharatgas uses HelloBPCL and HP Gas uses HP PAY.
What if I cannot or do not want to complete BAA?
The government has provided a route for such consumers to register their preference through OMC digital channels such as the consumer portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS. LPG can continue to be supplied at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to the stated conditions.
Can I complete BAA at my LPG distributor?
Yes. Consumers can visit their LPG distributor’s showroom to complete the authentication process.
Is the LPG Aadhaar authentication rule only for Ujjwala beneficiaries?
The October 1 requirement announced by the Ministry applies to domestic LPG consumers seeking refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy. It is therefore broader than a rule limited only to PMUY beneficiaries.
Bottom Line
The 1 October 2026 LPG subsidy rule is primarily an authentication requirement, not a rule that cuts off LPG supply altogether.
If your Biometric Aadhaar Authentication is already complete, there is nothing further you need to do.
If it is still pending, completing BAA before 1 October is the practical way to ensure that you remain eligible to book domestic LPG refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy.
You can complete the process during delivery, at your distributor’s showroom or through the official OMC mobile app. If you choose not to authenticate, LPG remains available at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to the stated conditions.
